We hear that all the time! SVM isn't about "needing help"; it’s about staying connected, making new friends, and enjoying life together. Think of us as a neighborhood social club for adults 60+ across SLO County. We call it interdependence: staying active, engaged, and looking out for one another!
Choose Your Membership Tier
1. Social Membership (Our Most Popular Option)
Perfect for active adults who want an enriched social calendar, easy connection, and local guidance.
Individual: $250 / year
Household (2 people at the same address): $375 / year
What’s Included:
- Unlimited access to all social events, Connection Cafés, group lunches, and outings.
- Access to our curated SLO County resources list.
- One-on-one guidance and referral support directly from our friendly office staff.
2. Full Membership (Social Perks + Volunteer Assistance)
Includes full access to all social benefits, plus occasional hands-on help from our vetted volunteers.
Individual: $500 / year
Household (2 people at same address): $750 / year
Volunteer Support Services Offered:
- Tech Help: Assistance with smartphones, computers, tablets, and home electronics.
- Handy Help: Small fixes like changing high lightbulbs or checking a leaky faucet.
- Transportation: Rides to personal and medical appointments.
- Light Gardening: Yard tidying like trimming rose bushes or raking leaves.
- Grocery Assistance: Help purchasing everyday essentials.
Full Membership Qualifications Checklist
To ensure our volunteer-based model is a safe and great fit, Full Members must be able to:
[ ] Connect Socially: Look forward to joining group activities and community events.
[ ] Self-Coordinate: Independently schedule appointments and handle phone calls with staff and volunteers.
[ ] Engage with Multiple Volunteers: Enjoy meeting different community members (we do not offer 1:1 dedicated volunteer matching).
[ ] Vehicle Mobility: Step in and out of cars independently, and move on your own or with a cane/walker (we are unable to transport wheelchairs or motorized scooters).
[ ] Communication: Use hearing aids if needed for clear, effective communication.
Please Note: SLO Village Movement provides community support and social connection—we are not a full-time caregiving, companionship, or rideshare service. Volunteer support is subject to volunteer availability and skills.
Membership Eligibility & Onboarding
Who Can Join: Older adults aged 60 or older residing in SLO County (the majority of members reside within San Luis Obispo city limits). Contact our office to confirm geographic coverage.
Scholarships Available: Financial hardship should never stand in the way of community. Reduced-fee scholarships are available for eligible applicants.
Onboarding Timeline:
Social Memberships take effect immediately upon receipt of a signed agreement and membership payment.
Full Memberships require a 2–3 week onboarding process. A pre-screen phone call is required before the in-person intake interview (at the potential member's home). A signed agreement and payment are to be submitted before full membership is accepted.
