Application & Reference Requirements:

Reference Guidelines:

No Family Members: References cannot be relatives, spouses, or domestic partners.
Professional Preferred: We strongly encourage at least one professional reference.

Examples of acceptable professional and personal references:

- Professional: Current or former supervisors, managers, colleagues, clients, or business partners.
- Academic & Community: Professors, teachers, academic advisors, volunteer coordinators, or club/organization leaders.
- Personal/Character: Long-time friends (more than 5 years), mentors, landlords, or community leaders who can vouch for your reliability.

Once your application is complete, you will be contacted via email with the next steps in the volunteer vetting process, including a request for a background check through Sterling Volunteers.
